Share files

Create a link so someone can download a file.

  1. Press … on a file and choose Share, or select it and press Share in the bar at the top.
  2. Choose when the link expires: after 1 day, 7 days, 30 days, or never.
  3. Press Create link, then copy it and send it to someone.

Anyone with the link can view and download the file without signing in or having an account, so only send it to people you trust with that file. Images and videos preview right on the page.

Previews in chat apps

Paste a link for an image or video into an app like Discord, and it shows a preview. Other files show their name and size.

To make that preview, the app downloads a copy of the image or video, and it may keep it after you turn the link off. Don’t post a link there if you wouldn’t want the file seen by that app.

Open Share on the file again and press Turn off link. The Shared page lists every file with a link.

A link also stops working when it expires, or when the file goes to the trash. If you restore the file, a link that hasn’t expired works again.

Good to know

  • Only files can be shared, not folders.
  • A file has one link at a time, so sharing it again gives you the same link.
